kitchen of the week
I love this handsome country kitchen because it looks lived in and loved. And I'm a big fan of the cabinet-free walls (via muhmamashop).
Find the green enamel pendant lights at Barn Light Electric.
Find vintage breadboards at Great Stuff By Paul.
bathroom of the week
Simple, rustic, serene. This bathroom has such a nice, private getaway feel. Check out that clever wall-mounted spout! I would love to know where this space is...any ideas?

the baker's table
This wonderful (and large!) baker's table is the heart of a San Francisco kitchen from designer-homeowner Susan Dossetter. She cleverly added the vintage French towel bars and vintage hand towels. The sweet treats on top give this kitchen, in a c. 1905 home, the look of a bustling French bakery, don't you think? In the background: A custom La Cornue Chateau range with brass fittings. See more of this delicious kitchen here (photo: James Carriere).

the writing hut
As a child, I loved the books of Roald Dahl (still do), so I was delighted to stumble upon this photo of his private writing hut. The interior of "The Gipsy House" consisted of a wing chair, a wall of letters and photos, and collections of oddities such as a ball made of silver chocolate wrappers he had amassed over time (source: The Guardian). I love the yellow door!

big style
From the scaled down range to the painted tiles to the pegboard (great accessible storage for hanging things), this little kitchen squeezes in plenty of style and function. The compact fridge is to the right of the range, behind cabinet doors. Find the rug at Pearl River.
Whether you're dying eggs, trying a new recipe, or preparing a Passover meal in your kitchen this weekend, I hope it's a cheerful one!

bathroom of the week
A classic cottage bathroom that's as practical as it is charming: The subway tile's dark gray grout requires less scrubbing (read: hides the dirt!) and every inch of space is utilized to maximize storage. Click here to learn how the homeowner-designer, Haskell Harris, fashioned a medicine cabinet from a DIY mirror and existing nook (photo: Charles Walton IV).

secret passageway?
You may have noticed how much I love a good entryway. This one is a particular favorite for its secret passageway quality. Behind the door...painted, winding steps and lots of family photos. I'd love to see where that stairwell leads! Outside the door, the white planked wall and ceiling are a blank canvas for a welcome sign, a unique light fixture, and outdoor gear (via French By Design).

inspired by: lieve hemel guesthouse
Marcel and Heidy van den Beuken-Peters converted a c. 1895 farmhouse in the Netherlands into a charming b&b where French wine flows freely. They call it Lieve Hemel ("sweet heaven" in English). The welcome sign, top, means "heavenly wine."
More photos here. Learn more about the guesthouse, wine bar, and restaurant here (click your preferred language at the top of the page).

bathroom of the week
Detail from a Connecticut bath designed by Lee Ann Thornton. I love it when the mirror doesn't match the fixtures! See more of this elegant home here.
retro modern
I love the fun mix-and-match dinnerware colors and patterns from Anthropologie that are somehow modern and retro at the same time. Top: "Atom Art" serving bowls; bottom: "Flame Leaf" bowls.

A powder room featuring beautiful, hand-painted tiles from Lascaux (interior design by Michael S. Smith).
the chair makes it
Three very different chairs set the scene in these vignettes. Top to bottom: A button tufted accent chair; a blue, beige, and turquoise patterned wingback chair; a cane armchair (images via decorpad). Which one is your favorite?

bold & noble
"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow" is the theme of this charming growth chart from Bold & Noble. Shown here is a detail of the hand-pulled screen print which also is available in blue.
The design collective at Bold & Noble offers a fun variety of prints, all on recycled paper, and also does custom work. Here are two of my favorites. Top: "Trees around Britain" includes a circular list of the leaf bearers (such as wych elm and wild cherry). Bottom: Custom cover art for The Story of Forgetting by Stefan Merrill Block.
